The
Humane Society of Marathon County provides the following services
for our community.
CARE
AND SHELTER
The Humane Society operates the Animal Shelter, located at 7001 Packer Drive
The Shelter receives unwanted, abandoned, and stray
animals. Its trained staff is on duty every day to be sure the animals
are fed regularly and cared for properly.
SHELTER HOURS
12 - 5 p.m. - Monday through Saturday, 1-3 p.m. - Sunday, and
closed on Holidays.
The Shelter is closed until Noon because we have 63+ cages to clean,
walks to give, and animals must be fed and watered, bathed, medicated,
and LOVED! Please respect the shelter hours, the animals in our
care will thank you for doing so.
 INVESTIGATION OF COMPLAINTS
Though the HSMC no longer handles the investigation of complaints
we highly encourage you to contact your local law enforcement authority
the
animals are counting on you.
LOST AND FOUND
The Animal Shelter maintains records of lost and found animals in
the area. We urge pet owners to notify the Animal Shelter immediately
if their pet should become lost. We scan ALL incoming animals for
microchip identification implants.
PET
CARE COUNSELING
Inquiries are received daily from people who need help in solving
animal problems. We provide advice and solutions to animal problems
through practical experience and appropriate referrals.
 WILDLIFE
On occasion a wild animal may need special care or rehabilitation.
Althought we dearly wish that we were able to provide this service,
we are simply not equipped to handle wild animals. If you have found
a wild animal in need of care, please contact the Central Wisconsin
Wildlife Center at (715) 341-8618.
ADOPTION POLICY
Every effort is made to place animals in homes that will be permanent
and responsible for the pet. This means the adopter must meet certain
requirements including the mandatory spay/neuter of the adopted
pet,. Our goal is QUALITY not QUANTITY adoptions. Any compromise
of this principle would be a disservice to the animals and would
continue the tragic cruelty of surplus dogs and cats.
FREE HEALTH EXAMINATION
Through the cooperation of our area veterinarians a free health
examination is given with each adopted pet. The certificate must
be presented to an area vet within 14 days following an adoption.
If the animal is deemed physically unfit by the vet it may be returned
within 14 days for a full refund or a gift certificate to be used
within one year.
HUMANE EDUCATION
Unfortunately there is no immediate solution to the animal welfare
problem, However, through education we hopefully awaken in others
a compassion and concern for all life. We have speakers well versed
in animal welfare topics available for school and community presentations
upon request. We will also be happy to arrange a tour of the shelter
for your group. We are constantly developing new material aids which
will bring to the public practical information and instruction on
pet care, animal overpopulation, and animal abuse.
Other programs, events, and services that are available at or through
our Shelter include: A "Pets for Seniors & Handicapped" Annual
(low cost) Spring Rabies Clinics, Annual Open House Celebration,
Quarterly Newsletters.
YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
