Event Summary
Events that make a difference in our community
HSMC strives to work very closely with the community - hosting and participating in a wide variety of events that promote the humane treatment of all living beings. By partnering fun with education and outreach, HSMC hopes to make a difference in our community. What is really exciting is when the community lets us know we are needed and appreciated and take us under their wing in so many thoughtful ways.
Charter Communications held a pet supply roundup for HSMC which ended July 31. Customers were encouraged to drop off items from our shelter wish list or make a cash donation to help our orgnaization at the local Charter office. As a thank you, Charter gave each participant one free Charter on Demand movie coupon, Field & Stream magazine, and an entry to win a 42" HDTV! Along with the roundup, Charter encouraged its employees to volunteer hours and as a result of that effort, our shelter recieved a check for $250 along with all the donations! Charter took us under their wing last year when they kicked off Paws on Demand, found local businesses to sponsor the feature, and have ever since made our pets available to be seen with voice-over descriptions 24 hours a day! Pictured is HSMC Executive Director Kirlin (r) receiving the check and donations from Charter Communications Kerrie Wiemsin, Department Assistant and Caitlin Breuer, Public Relations Coordinator. THANKS CHARTER & EVERYONE WHO HELPED SUPPORT OUR PETS ALONG THE WAY!
Saturday June 4 HSMC was invited along with a few of our adoptable dogs to the Leigh Yawkey W
oodson Art Museum for their beautiful canine portrait exhibits. Visitors were encouraged to bring slightly used or new balls and toys for the shelter dogs. A little rain didn't deter visitors from spending time with us oustide and vsiting with Heidi and Sadie. We left with an amazing amount of toys and treats for both our dogs and cats at the shelter! Here is our attempt at canine photography with a picture of some young visitors under the display table having fun with Heidi! We will always be thankful that the museum decided to "go to the dogs" for the month!

Riverview Elementary School 5th grade students took a field trip here and brought much needed donations, too! We had the opportunity to give them a tour of the shelter and speak with them about issues concerning the welfare of companion pets in our county and the country. Our hats are off to the parents and teachers of this amazing group of students. We feel a little better knowing that the future voices for the animals are in safe hands!
