My husband, Eric, and I adopted two kitties from HSMC in late September 2009 after making the heart-wrenching decision to have our cat, Maxine, put to sleep. She was about 13 years old had been ill for over five years and we could no longer ensure her comfort or high quality of life. We came to HSMC to start the search for another cat and we found Steinway (formerly Oriole) and Cessna (formerly Ozzie). They were sharing a kennel and quickly found their way into our hearts. We brought them home and they immediately took over the house – it was as if they knew they belonged here! We have a four-year-old chocolate lab named Scout and that introduction was the only minor concern we had. Scout was awesome with Maxine and so we knew he’d be wonderful with our two new additions – the kitties, however, we weren’t too sure about! After a few days, Steinway and Cessna decided that Scout wasn’t too bad a buddy and they tolerate him now. There are even moments when they contemplate curling up next to him in front of the fire – then they change their minds!
Having these two little ones in the house has been really fun. They have very distinct personalities – Steinway is the laid back, cool dude who loves attention but isn’t too pushy about it and Cessna is pushy and playful and much more chatty than her “brother”. They are curious and sweet and have brought us a lot of joy already. We are looking forward to many years with our dog and two new kitties. Thank you bringing us together. You can count this as another very successful adoption!
Make it a great day!
